Italian marble polishing — softer stone, finer touch

Italian marble is beautiful and demanding at the same time. It is softer and more absorbent than Indian marble, so it scratches and etches more easily, and the wrong pad or too coarse a grit will burn the surface and leave it looking milky. If the stone has lost its translucency and the veins no longer read clearly, that is a finish problem, and it can be reversed carefully.

We have restored Italian marble — Statuario, Botticino, Carrara and similar — since 2009, for homes, hotels and showrooms across Delhi NCR and across India.

What goes wrong with Italian marble

  • Etching from citrus, vinegar and bathroom cleaners, which shows as light, matte patches.
  • Fine scratches from grit and furniture that kill the depth of the surface.
  • Yellowing where the stone sits wet, common in bathrooms and balconies.
  • Over-aggressive past polishing that has removed the original surface.

How we restore it

We work gentler than we would on Indian marble: a controlled grind only where needed, honing through a fine sequence, and finishing to bring the translucency back rather than just a surface shine. Etching and stains are treated before the final polish, and sealing is recommended for wet areas. Every step is explained, because Italian marble rewards patience and punishes shortcuts.

Rates

Because it needs finer work, Italian marble typically runs higher than Indian marble — roughly Rs.25–50 per sq.ft for full restoration, and more for heavily etched or yellowed stone. You get a written band after inspection.
